My Training: I grew up on a farm and was very involved with 4H. I started obedience training dogs when I was 12 years old. I competed in obedience trials for many years. After becoming a mother, obedience training was my own time away from the house, kids and cores. That's when I decided to become and obedience instructor for the Key City Kennel Club. I love obedience training and helping other learn not only how to train their dogs, but also how to communicate with them.
Showing & Breeding Dog: I started AKC conformation showing (like the dog shows you see on TV) in the 80's. I was showing and breeding Australian Shepherds and LOVED it. After a car accident, I could no linger show my beloved Aussies and thought my showing days were over...... that's when a good friend advised me to look into the Havanese Breed. I will admit, I was totally against showing a toy breed. After years of showing and training one of the smartest breeds "Aussies", how could I show/breed a stupid, hard to train toy dog. However, after researching the breed and talking to well known breeders, I leaned how smart and trainable Havanese really are. I was so excited that my training and showing days were not over. I bought my first Havanese from a well known breeder who became one of my best friends and mentor. Nona Dietrich from Gingerbread Havanese has been an important part of my life ever since.
